Thirteen out of the top twenty areas with the cheapest property are in the North-West of England; five others are in the North-East and two in South East Wales.
North-West England
The Lancashire town of Burnley has the cheapest houses in Britain. Recently, a two-bedroom terraced house in Pritchard Street central Burnley, in need of substantial repair and renovation, sold for £10,000. The house was on the market for six months with an original price of £15,000.
The nearby town of Nelson fairs no better with asking prices for a two-bedroomed terrace starting at £15,000. Not too far away Darwen also has some bargains with prices starting at £22,0000. Slightly more expensive is Liverpool where you can get a two bedroom property for £25,000. A house in Skelmersdale is on sale for £27,000 and it even has three bedrooms and a downstairs cloakroom!
North-East England
The former coal mining town of Ferryhill in County Durham has the cheapest property in the region. Prices start from around £15,000.
Houses in the port town of Hartlepool on the north east coast are cheap as well with prices starting at £19,500.
South-East Wales
Although not quite as cheap as the North of England, South-East Wales has some of the least expensive property in Britain. These houses can be found in the old industrial areas of the South Wales Valleys. In the Rhondda Valley prices begin at £17,000.
